Doctor of Audiology Degree (AuD)
The Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) program at West Virginia University has been accepting applications for admission since 2004. The program consists of 73 credit hours of coursework plus clinical practicum experiences including a fourth year residency.
Program Objectives
The Au.D. program’s objective is to produce graduates possessing the knowledge and skills necessary to practice audiology autonomously in an effective, ethical manner. To this end, the following goals have been established by the Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology at West Virginia University:
- Graduates will demonstrate mastery of knowledge and skills necessary to practice audiology in diverse settings encompassing all of the many facets of our profession.
- Graduates will demonstrate an ability to work autonomously, using sound judgment in a competent and ethical manner.
- Graduates will contribute to the profession and their community via active membership in professional organizations, scholarly activity, and taking the initiative in public education concerning hearing and balance disorders.
- Graduates will be employed as audiologists serving the hearing impaired populaces, industry and the medical community with special emphasis in under served areas of our state.
Requirements for Completion of the Program
Graduates must demonstrate acquisition of all knowledge and skills delineated in the Standards for the Certificate of Clinical Competence (ASHA). The academic and clinical practicum requirements in this program satisfy those established by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association for the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in Audiology.
